Sunan Ampel Mosque & Tomb

Sunan ampel Mosque was the second Largest moswue in surabaya. Sunan Ampel Mosque was build by Raden Achmad in 1421 M. In this Mosque you could see a building with old java and arabic style.In this Mosque , you could also see Limo Gapuro (five gate) that representing as the symbol of the harmony of islamic.

In this Area we must dress properly and Expecialy for woman, we must use jilbab. For them who are not muslem , they provide a jilbab rental which is FREE. In this area many people came to pray. So as a tourist , we must be polite and keep our manner.

Sunan Ampel Tomb, or as known as Raden Achmad Rachmatulloh Tomb Located on the Right side of Sunan Ampel Mosque. Sunan ampel passed away at 1481, He was famous as a religius person. Sunan ampel was trusted from Majapahin Ruler to Spread Islam on Surabaya. The tomb itself was build to respect Sunan ampel and its great service.

Sunan ampel tomb is always crowded, visited by the pilgrim expecialy when it comes to the islamic month like Isra’Mi’Raj, islamic new year, and Rahmadan. Sunan ampel Mosque and Tomb has become one of the popular religious tourisim destination. So there were many beggar that begging for mercy and some coins from the pilgrim and the tourist.

This destination itself is famous for it historical story. But not many people know much about the story behind this mosque. When we first came to this mosque, the man from the information center reffer us to the comunity leader if we want to search more information about kampung arab. His name is Mr Baidowi. Kampung Arab Nowdays.

You'll find different atmosphere when you entrance kampung arab. The citizen still look like an arabic altrough they spoke javanese. But the culture they have is still relevant. most of them wear jilbab and peci. Some of the woman there even use clothes that cover all of their body parts. They said it was taboo to show their body part to people except her husband.

the main attraction of kampung arab is Sunan Ampel Tomb and Sunan Ampel Mosque (the Detail about the tomb and Mosque will be explained on the next article). At the past people Build their houses near to the mosque so that they can pray and feels like close to their god. But nowdays. Not only houses, the citizen is also open a store and stalls to sells things. they sells a lot of things like kurma, perfume and Jilbabs.

If you seek into another part of Kampung arab, you will see an alley full of stores that only sells kurma :)  There were a lot of types of kurma. Most of them are imported straight from _ . In others alley, you'll found stores that also sells old books that related to their islamic religion,and if you're lucky you'll found old books that still in the arabic font :) . In another alley you will also found another stores that sells tabacco and spicies.

The main problem in Kampung Arab is the security and the roadmap. There were a lot of thief that seek for an easy money. So you'd rather because with your belongings. The road map. The street it self is actually big, but almost half of them are used for the food stall or a parking line. with numberious of motorcycle and becaks ,it will be a little bit tricky for cars and bus to pass by.

The government are trying hard to make kampung arab more reachable. They provide a parking line for tourist buses. So it will be more comfortable for tourist to came to visits kampung arab.
